Is the exterior of the fire pit hot?
You can count on your Solo Stove to keep you warm on a chilly day, but don’t forget that all the warmth comes from a very hot surface! The outer walls of your fire pit or camp stove are hotter than a pepper sprout once your fire starts, and should cool completely before you handle your Solo Stove.
It is best to wait a full 1-3 hours before handling your fire pit. Placing your Solo in your existing fire pit, tailor made DIY surround, or below-ground pit is a great way to make your backyard fire a safe and inviting space.
Can I use a Solo Stove fire pit on my deck?
Our fire pits are designed to create a mesmerizing fire. That means the outside of our fire pits will be very hot while they are in use. If you are burning on heat-sensitive surfaces such as wood or composite decking, we recommend using Stand with our fire pits to protect the surfaces below. For more information check out our blog on when to use Stand.
Can I cook over a Solo Stove fire pit?
Our fire pits are designed to be used primarily as a backyard or portable fire feature. That said, feel free to enjoy roasting the perfect hot dogs or marshmallows!
What kinds of firewood do you recommend?
Any firewood logs will work, but we recommend using dry hardwoods in our fire pits to enjoy the best flame. Hardwoods, such as birch, maple, hickory, and oak, will burn longer and cleaner than softwoods.
Can I store a Solo Stove fire pit outside?
Solo Stove fire pits can be stored outside with an appropriate weather cover. Check out Solo Stove Shelter, an outdoor weather cover designed specifically for use with a Solo Stove fire pit. Otherwise, our products should be stored in a cool, dry location. Prolonged exposure to harsh weather will likely increase rust and discoloration.
What does Solo Stove recommend for extinguishing a flame prematurely?
Sand is one method for extinguishing a fire quickly. In extreme emergencies we recommend using water or use a fire extinguisher. Our products may become deformed when rapidly cooled with water and we do not recommend this method for daily use.
