About Avery Carl:
When it comes to finding the ideal location for your STR, Avery’s perspective is to choose vacation zones where there are fewer long-term rentals and the neighborhood is built for serving a short-term market (ex. Panama City Beach in Florida). That’s why she prefers to focus primarily on Broken Bow and the Smoky Mountains which are also easy for domestic travelers to drive to and are usually booked every season!
This month we chatted with Avery Carl who is a Real Estate Investor & Founder/CEO of The Short Term Shop. Here are some of the highlights…
Townhall Summary:
Remote hosting and self-managing doesn’t have to be difficult and it will give you much more ROI than hiring a manager on site. The cost of hiring a manager may mean you’re breaking even every month versus making a profit!
In Avery’s opinion, the more simple the better when starting out. Don’t try to create a unique stay (such as treehouses, glamping sites, etc.) because there are too many laws, regulations, and permits you’ll need to think about. Instead, just focus on a “normal” unit where you can get your ROI flowing in much faster and then focus on more interesting stays afterward if that’s a path you’re interested in taking.
